Antique Persian Heriz Serapi Rug, Persia, Early 20th Century – Crafted in the Northwestern Persian rug weaving district of Heriz, this remarkable antique Persian Serapi rug incorporates a variety of stylistic hallmarks and iconic features that are inextricably associated with the area’s decorative rugs. Ornate turtle-and-vine scroll borders with lapped corners encircle the richly detailed field while reflecting the traditional triad of oxidized Persian blue, ecru and warm terracotta red that is featured throughout the body. The lavishly decorated field features a diverse assortment of rustic vine scrolls and abstract floral motifs that are set over a subtly abrashed and gently oxidized background. The bold octofoil medallion depicts an assortment of quirky vine scrolls and botanical motifs that represent the unique local style.
