Detailed Herati leaves and angular vines woven in a classic color palette decorate this medallion-style carpet, which includes angular patterns from Heriz supplemented by the oxidized colors associated with Serapi carpets.

Antique Persian Serapi Heriz, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 – This ornate, majestic antique rug — a stunning antique Persian Serapi Heriz rug made in Persia some time around the turn of the twentieth century — is a fantastic example of the artistic possibilities inherent in traditional Persian rug making. This knock-out of a Heriz Serapi carpet features a bold octofoil medallion with weighted palmette pendants, which are inset in a stepped lozenge and decorated with a number of inlaid patterns. Hooked spandrels and a classic sienna, indigo and ivory color palette accompanied by rare celadon-green accents complete the carpet field. Charming vine scroll guard bands and reciprocating turtle motifs with accentuated legs decorate the traditional borders of this Heriz Serapi carpet. Within the wide world of antique Persian rugs, it is easy to lose sight of the qualities that make these sorts of rugs the timeless and incredibly valuable works of art that they are. Until one sees a rug like this, and, suddenly, all is clear again.
