Antique Indian Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Late Nineteenth Century – Here is a remarkable antique rug – an antique Agra carpet that was woven in India during the latter years of the nineteenth century. This alluring antique Indian carpet is characterized by an exciting and beautifully detailed composition, which incorporates fascinating animals as well as precisely woven floral details. Further, this carpet features an impressive high contrast pallet of beautiful regal tones: the main border as well as most of the detail work shimmers with a soft golden hue, while the main body of the carpet boasts a rich and vibrant shade of red. In the borders, alternating large floral details of red and pale gold sit astride a highly stylized vine scroll. Within the borders, a complex network of gold unfolds, with a tangle of animals and plants all gathered around a stately central medallion. Beautifully woven throughout and in remarkable condition considering its advanced age, this antique Indian Agra carpet is an exciting and appealing example.
