Antique Persian Heriz Serapi Bakshaish Rug 49103, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Antique Persian Area Rugs, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Well balanced in color and design, this antique Persian Bakshaish rug exemplifies classic Heriz weaving. The background is rendered in traditional Persian blue that takes on a turquoise hue. The main panel is outlined in deep burgundy juxtaposed with terracotta. The muted shades are typical of high-quality antique Heriz rug weaving. The finely knotted wool contributes to the elegance of this antique rug. Three medallions display classic geometric designs of flowers, tendrils and vines. A ram’s horn in the top and bottom medallion provides symmetry and a contrast to the large central floral motif. Intricately detailed spandrels in each corner nestle against a thin border that echoes the blue of the ground. The running motif of the border with geometric flowers rounds out the piece.
