Beautiful Tetex German Hooked Carpet with a Caucasian Kuba rug Design #49122, Country of Origin / Rug Type: European Rugs, Circa Date: 1920 – When demand exceeded supply in the early 20th century, Europeans copied the highly sought-after antique rugs from the Caucasus region. This vintage German rendition displays the rich colors and stylized geometric motifs of classic Antique Caucasian Kuba rug designs. Instead of knotting, however, these Tetex rugs are hooked. The well-balanced pattern is beautifully fitted to the large size of this carpet. Stylized floral motifs are framed by geometrical figures reminiscent of gazelles and other animal forms depicted on rugs of the Caucasus. The intricate design of the repeating border displays light-colored flowers bracketed by geometrical designs. Two border guards enclose the main border. The outer guard repeats the dark color scheme of the ground. The inner guard uses terracotta that offsets the dark background of the piece.
