Antique Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Turn of the Twentieth Century– Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique Oriental rug – an antique Indian Agra rug, woven in the tradition of the finest Agra rugs. This particular antique rug is primarily characterized by a sublimely beautiful, ephemeral field of light blue, which sports an impeccable patina. Across the surface of this expansive light blue field, an all over pattern consisting of floral, vine scroll, and geometric figures unfolds in an elegant, symmetrical manner. The faded deep red and pale gold utilized in the fine detail work throughout the piece complements the sky blue of the field in a very pleasing way, giving this remarkable carpet the impression of ephemerality and age, while also granting it an assertive and dramatic presence. The field is tied expertly into the series of inner and outer borders, which, in contrast to the field, are primarily characterized by a crowd of floral details against a background of red. A great example of a classically composed Agra, this is a remarkable antique rug.
