These grand compositions are generally characterized by an ephemeral and alluring classical style, with emphases on elaborate vine scroll and vegetative elements, as well as on a sort of muted color pallet. This particular example boasts a more geometric characterization than many of its cousins, especially in the detail work, which often expands and turns at dramatic right angles. The beautiful soft blue color of the field allows for these geometric figures, rendered in shades of starkly contrasting red and orange, to take on an added sense of depth.
