Antique Khorassan Rug, Country of Origin: Eastern Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This positively incredible antique Oriental rug — an antique Khorassan made in Eastern Persia toward the end of the nineteenth century — is a truly remarkable piece. A classic medallion pattern ripples gracefully outward from the center on this sumptuous antique Khorassan, a very traditional design executed with tremendous mastery here. A central star is enclosed by a larger ogival medallion in blue against a sandy gold field with blue corner pieces echoing the outer medallion, creating an overwhelming sense of balance and harmony throughout the rug. Rich vines and beautiful, lilting arabesques undulate poetically within each of these individual elements, elaborating the design to a point of incredible intricacy and complexity, all without making it any more difficult to understand or appreciate. Arabesque borders on a champagne ground enclose the whole design with an elegant and graceful finality.
