Woven by tribal weavers in Central Asia, this Turkmen band features a graphic color scheme with striking decorations that appeal to collectors and decorators alike.

Central Asian Turkmen Tent Band, Central Asia – This mesmerizing antique Turkmen tent band is a beautiful example of tribal handcrafts and band work in particular, which is one of the most interesting and unusual groups of tribal trappings. Striking black-and-white designs accompanied by brilliant vermillion edge pieces produce a dramatic visual effect. Divided lozenges with solid monochrome quadrants produce a splendid pattern-within-a-pattern that displays black hourglass figures alternating with endless lozenge rows that appear as the tips of each white quadrant meet. Hollow roundels adorn each decorative half-lozenge figure that appears between the central squares. The superb level of contrast and variance in the intensity of dark and light expands the multitude of variations that appear when the pattern is observed from a distance and add to the details that emerge up-close.
