Antique Caucasian Kuba Runner Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: Turn of the 20th Century – Here is an absolutely remarkable antique Oriental rug – an antique Kuba runner, woven by the great tribal rug-makers of the Caucasus around the turn of the twentieth century. This marvelous composition is characterized by a decidedly tribal aesthetic, with abstract geometric figures dominating throughout. Perhaps the single most striking characteristic of this traditionally composed antique rug is the series of seven stacked medallions that dominate the field. Each of these beautiful, intriguing eight-sided figures features an entirely distinct color pallet, with each on taking on the appearance and role of an independent, self-contained composition. The overall effect is dazzling, with each small detail jumping out more and more the closer one examines the rug. Intriguingly, a gorgeous ivory border encircles the action, the purity of which is both beautiful in and of itself, and brilliant at contextualizing the remainder of the composition. A beautiful and wonderfully wrought tribal rug, this Kuba runner is a wonderful example of the lingering appeal of tribal aesthetics.
