Antique Caucasian Rugs — Konaghend Antique Kuba Rug, Caucasus, late nineteenth century This lovely antique Caucasian Shirvan rug has the fine, Konaghend, openwork lattice so prized by collectors of Caucasian rugs, along with the classic Konaghend Kufic design border. Unlike most examples of this type, which often have a blue-ground field and an ivory- or red-ground border, this example has a sandy gold ground throughout, nicely unifying the whole composition. The field design here is also much more finely drawn and open in its composition than usual, giving the whole design of this beautiful antique Caucasian Kufic design Shirvan rug a lighter, more decorative effect.
