Antique Chinese Rug, Origin Country: China, Circa – 1900 — This antique Chinese rug captures the beauty of its Asian homeland while providing an insight into Chinese culture and language. The rug features large Chinese text, with a singular symbol meaning “Buddha” dominating the interior. The sentence on the right-hand side translates to: “Graciously presented in Year 22 of the Qing Dynasty”.  The sentence on the lower left corner means ‘by your follower student Huáng Wén Xiù’. The text is complemented vertically by intricate pattern work consisting of repetitive geometrics in the same color. The bottom of the piece features a stair like pattern leading up to a hilly landscape, atop which sits a temple. The top of the rug is graced with softly pictured, inviting clouds in unique shapes. The bits of oranges nicely contrast the dominant navy color of the rug to provide an engaging image.
