Beautiful Antique 18th Century Ottoman Embroidery Textile, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: 18th century – This beautiful antique Ottoman embroidery textile is unique in it’s square size, rather than the traditional rectangular, shape. It has a lovely disorder about it which allows for a bit of free spirited fun to appear in the artistic design. The bright, joyful colors also lend themselves to this motif. The bright reds and oranges in contrast with the lively blue and green hues give the antique textile an element of natural friskiness in its spirit. The flowers and leaves in the design continue this theme, and the twirling vines which weave between the blossoms and throughout the scene tie everything together while maintaining the childlike wildness.
While there is a border around the outer area of the antique 18th century Ottoman embroidery textile, it is exceptionally subtle and unobtrusive. While it reigns in the design to an extent, confining the wildness of the natural landscape to the orderly, square shape, the eye is not forced to linger on this border. In fact the outer area of the antique embroidery seems to blend right in with the entirety of the design, with only a hint of a linear quality enough to define the edge. The antique 18th century Ottoman embroidery textile has a relatively even distribution of flowers without being homogeneous and overly orderly.
