Lori / Luri Antique Rugs and Carpets

Antique Lori/Luri rugs, produced by the Lurs of the Zagros Mountains in western Iran, are among the most impressive tribal Persian weavings. Utilizing a primarily geometric repertory along with highly stylized animal forms arranged as allover patterns, Luri rugs rely extensively on the effects of rich color, above all reds, blues, greens, and yellows, to heighten the dynamic vitality of the designs. These weavings largely comprise bags and trappings, but Luri weavers made fairly large scatter rugs as well.
