East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Origin: East Turkestan, Circa: Mid 20th Century (vintage rug– Towers of splendid interlaced pomegranate shrubs traverse this luxurious antique Khotan carpet and create a magnificent allover pattern. The opulent composition is charming, colorful, superbly decorative and possesses all the traits of an ideal decorator’s carpet. The calm slate-blue field has a soothing facade with saturated mineral tones that hover between cerulean, cyan and aquatic green. Bright guava-pink pomegranates punctuate the elegant branching shrubs, which emanate from decorative vases on the edges of the field and grow toward the center. The beautifully symmetric composition is framed by a quartet of elegant borders that reflect the sophisticated jewel tones and eye-catching ruby pinks that dominate the field. Creative turtle-and-vinescroll main borders meander around the edges of the composition along with reciprocating vinescrolls, clustered berries and polychromatic sunray outer borders that represent discrete design traditions.
