Bakshaish Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 - Designed to protect people, their herds and resources, this antique Bakhshayesh woven circa 1900 features prominent bird motifs arranged in pairs to symbolize good luck. Guardbands decorated with an archetypal running water pattern frame the colorful field. Multiple lines define each stepped lozenge medallion and offset the pattern from the burnt sienna and Persian blue background.
