44416 Antique Kazak, Caucasus, late nineteenth century - This delightful antique Kazak has an allover design of latchhook diamonds in green and ivory arranged in two vertical columns. A scatter of tie geometric elements fills the remaining space, with additional columns of cruciform rosettes to either side. A main border of lattice rosettes in alternating reds, greens, and blues is set against an ivory ground, while minor reciprocal trefoil borders and laddered guard stripes reinforce the framing effect. The rich and varied palette is classic Kazak at its very best.
