Antique Kashan, Persia, circa 1920's - A fine mesh of voluted cross-forms arranged as an allover design unfolds with minute and infinite precision across the surface of this sumptuous antique Kashan. A delicate 'Kufic' border based on the geometricized decorative Islamic script appropriately frames the field. Both the field and border are extraordinary within the Kashan production. They seem to follow Timurid designs from the very earliest attested period of Persian rug weaving. Despite the classic inspiration, the predominantly tan palette makes this piece a superior decorative carpet for contemporary use.
