43370 Antique Kashan, Persia, late nineteenth century - This antique Kashan evokes all the elegance and grandeur of the classical Persian carpets produced centuries earlier. At the center of the field is a scalloped medallion with large finials. Arabesque spandrels complement the medallion at the four corners of the field, while the intervening tan ground is filled with a ‘millefleurs’ pattern reminiscent of embroidered Kashmir shawls. In the main border a finely proportion interlacing vinescroll is set against cool blue ground that echoes the central medallion.
