Antique Persian Bakshaish/Bakhshaish /Bakhshaysh Rug, Late 19th Century The strength of this antique Bahshaish comes from its off kilter design. Even in a group known for its folk art aesthetic, this rug stands out. Three diamond-shaped medallions occupy the upper two thirds of the field, pushing down on cluster floral and cruciform motifs. Two human figures with oversized, blue hands add to the strange charm of the rug. The empty outer borders provide a nice counterpoint to the kinetic quality of the field.
