Alpujarra Antique Rugs and Carpets

Produced in the Alpujarra mountains south of Granada Alpujarra rugs were made from the 16th to the 19th century. Featuring strong coloring and traditional motifs these antique rugs are particular to their region. The folk art quality is highlighted by their coarsely woven texture and their limited use of colors. Often Alpujarra rugs are stylized in two tones and with a separate woven fringe using other colors.
