The stepped elements within the medallions are perhaps derived from North Persian flatwoven kilims, while the 'Boteh' vinescroll border derives as well from Northwest Persian village rugs. Only the small branches with flowers between the medallions relate to Heriz designs, as does the magnificent sense of color. The impressive skill and taste of the weaver emerges most in the absolute harmony and unity in which these diverse influences come together here to produce an outstanding decorative rug.
