Vintage Turkish Kilim 50193
Vintage Turkish Kilim, mid 20th Century — This vintage rug‘s blue field displays a single large geometric and floral pattern of intricate interconnecting designs in gold, red, black, pink, white, gray and beige. It presents many flowers and buds linked together on red stems in a highly stylized fashion. Four gray spandrels bracket the corners, each carrying a thin white border and marked with a pattern of black interlocking vines. The broad gold-colored border of the rug carries white medallions decorated with red, pink and blue patterns and smaller geometric-shaped medallions in alternating blue and beige colors, each holding a diamond design and surrounded by red, white and black shapes. Along the mid-line of the rug, the border on both the top and the bottom displays two side-by-side identical blue medallions. Guard borders containing red and black jagged patterns highlighted in white surround the border on each side. The meticulous attention to detail in this rug lends it visual interest. Weavers produce Kilim rugs across a wide geographic area encompassing Anatolia, the Caucasus Mountains and surrounding regions. These rugs lie flat, and generally appear thinner and lighter in weight than other carpets and rugs, making them popular as wall hangings and prayer rugs.
