Daring and decidedly modern, this carpet is characterized by its dynamic composition in which opposing line work plays out against a background of gold. Effectively divided into two even halves, this carpet features a series of narrow, angular lines of black on the left side, and its mirror – narrow, angular lines of white – on the left. These lines are are straight and assertive, arranged into a pattern that resembles sharp, serrated teeth; irrespective of any concrete similarities, however, these lines are ultimately abstract, moving energy throughout the piece in a captivating manner. That the black lines seem to continue into the white portion of the carpet and vice versa infuses the piece with an unmistakable energy, giving it a powerful presence despite is superficial simplicity. An intriguing vintage carpet, this mid-century Swedish rug is a compelling example.
