Beautiful Floral Design Room Size Vintage Indian Rug , Country of Origin / Rug Type: India Rug, Circa Date: Late 20th Century – Though the design itself is indicative of the patterns seen in the old Safavid rugs and early antique textiles, there is a strong art nouveau feel to this beautiful vintage rug from India. The stylized floral bouquets are surrounded by geometric design elements that pick up the sensual curving lines of the petal motifs. These geometric patterns create a grid-like all over design pattern, inside of which we find the beautiful floral elements.
The colors used for geometric frames are drawn out in in a taupe or off white. This creates a beautiful juxtaposition against the richer red based color, of the main background, of this magnificently sophisticated vintage Indian room size rug.The flower petals were crafted in tones of pinks, beige, cream and a very light pale yellow. The leaves and vine scrolls themselves were woven in beautiful soft tones of cream, light sage and green.
The main stylized floral bouquets all face in the same direction. This gives a sense of placement and order within the room size vintage Indian rug. The larger sized flowers have a Tiffany-esque grace that is both classic and refined.
Upon closer examination, you will see smaller flower elements, similar to a stylized tulip. These tulips, which point outwards in four different directions from their central point of origin, are seen in groups of four throughout this magnificent Indian rug. The groupings of tulips are each framed individually by the geometric elements. These elements both separate each of the groupings of flowers from each other, while providing a visual continuity to the work as a whole.
The light ivory colored guard borders surround the field as well as the main border. These beautiful light guard borders are filled with light-hued flowers and stylized leaves in tones of sage and cream.
The main border, that frames the field, is a continuation of the dominant reddish background color. The lighter guarders create a clear divide between the field and border. It is this juxtaposition that creates an almost three dimensional feel. This beautiful depth ads so much intrigue and interest to this captivating carpet.
This magnificent vintage Indian rug is an eclectic mix of vintage, old world classic as well as contemporary modern. It is a breathtaking piece that is sure to work effortlessly in almost any interior design setting.
