Antique Persian Silk Kashan Souf Prayer Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920– This is a truly stunning one-of-a-kind Kashan rug which showcases the mastery of Persian rug artisans. The color scheme is muted – the soft eggshell and ivory allow the fine details to dominate the eye. Light greens, blues, and reds accent this piece and contrast with the two black corners, which form a Mihrab at one end, reminiscent of a prayer rug. The birds of paradise and clusters of grapes depicted throughout the Souf rug are symbols of royalty and the afterlife. Lambs frolic around the border among bouquets of flowers, seemingly protecting the birds nestled in the trees.
