Vintage Afghan Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920– A structural and columnar pattern features in this orange-toned vintage Afghan rug. The design repeats both vertically and horizontally, marching across the textile in regular rows. Architectural shapes reminiscent of pillars and doors fill the space, depicted in orange, yellow and white. Tiny simplified tulips stud the borders within and around the main pattern. The warm colors are broken up by white rows with peaks holding squared-off loops. An orange border, filled with four-petaled flowers and black leaves, accents the central field, spaced apart by several quite narrow and intricately detailed bands that continue the floral theme of this Persian rug.
