Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: First Decade of the 20th Century – Here is an exciting and beautifully woven antique Oriental rug – an antique Kazak carpet that was woven in the Caucasus during the early years of the twentieth century. Featuring a composition that is highly representative of the Kazak style, this appealing antique Oriental carpet is an excellent example of the tribal aesthetic that characterizes the finest antique Caucasian rugs and carpets. In the traditional style, this elongated corridor carpet features a series of stacked motifs decorated with ancient symbols. Latch hook medallions embellished with extended pendants and geometric star motifs are dramatically offset by the saturated red field. Red and green inner borders featuring an archetypal counterchange pattern and secondary borders decorated with a combination of traditional details, including turreted Kazak motifs and colorful geometric symbols for protection against the evil eye. A beautiful example of an important style of weaving, this antique Kazak carpet from the turn of the twentieth century showcases some of the finer points of traditional tribal weaving.
