Beautiful and Rare Small Antique Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: Early 18th Century – This antique Khotan rug is vividly rendered in warm, autumnal shades, depicting wheat and flowers with tribal designs. A black and yellow sun in the center, contained within a simple octagonal medallion, is flanked on each side by a contrasting pair of flowers. Identical but for color, the yellow and blue flowers are surrounded by fields of leafy vines. Trees above and below nestle against large stalks of wheat. Black and white geometric embellishments in each corner set off the organic pattern. A maze-like red design forms an enclosing border, leading to a wide yellow strip with curling red structures repeating around this beautiful antique Oriental rug. Thin lines of black and red delineate bold limits against the final outer red field.
