Modern Carpet, India, Early 21st Century – Here is an exciting and dynamic modern carpet – a contemporary Bidjar-style carpet that was woven during the early years of the twentieth century. Despite its newness, this modern carpet very effectively communicates some of the more important points of the Bidjar style. This modern Bidjar style sampler depicts a portion of an elegant border pattern and an elegant segment of an ornate curvilinear arabesque, which are rendered in contrasting color ways. Exquisite guard bands decorated with reciprocating botanical motifs and flourishing cloud bands frame the elegantly styled field. The grand border pattern incorporates sweeping vine scrolls and an elegant palmette enclosed by a radiant rosette, which is set over a soft olive green background. The lavishly decorated arabesque depicts poly chromatic saz leaves, lush Shah Abbasi palmettes and dainty floral motifs arranged around spiraling vine scrolls. Based on the traditional Wagireh sampler form, this elegant rug incorporates a fragment of the individual patterns that could create a complete carpet. Unique and exciting, this modern Bidjar carpet from India is an excellent example.
