Vintage Long and Narrow Tribal Afghan Rug, Country of Origin: Afghan, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century– The golden and cream tones of this Afghan area rug create a rich visual accented by darker brown outlines. A pattern of matched medallions fills the center field, each diagonal row alternating in color between orange and cream. Jagged, geometric floral shapes fill every medallion, and stair-step borders confine them. Simpler, small yellow flowers line the spaces between the figures. A wide cream band, edged with darker strips, borders the rectangle, filled with a twining, heavily stylized vine. Small simple triangles and brown and orange diamonds with serrated edges rest in the spaces created by the vine’s form. Tessellating bars of spiked diamonds trim the top and bottom of the piece.
