One of the most enduringly popular antique Oriental rug styles, Oushak rugs and carpets are admired for their incomparable, elegant compositions. This particular carpet is a wonderful example of the Oushak style, resplendent with a representative Oushak monochromatism. Large borders, elegantly decorated with meticulously woven, abstract floral elements surround a broad, pale field. Eye-catching, geometric detail elements of pale gold characterize the field, each of which plays off of the other in a complex arrangement. The floral details from both the surrounding borders and the field itself interact in a fascinating manner, directing the eyes first to the field, and then back again to the borders, where they may pick up on the rectilinear vine scrolls, and again follow those back to the bright blossoms of the border. A beautifully composed antique Oriental rug, this elegant Oushak is a great example of one of the more desirable styles of Turkish rugs.
