Fine Weave Artistic Persian Vase Design Antique Indian Agra Area Rug 47204
Lavishly styled, this antique Indian carpet from the city of Agra displays a stunning allover pattern that has an elegant balance of large- and small-scale designs.
Agra Rug, India– This splendid antique Indian carpet from the great weaving city of Agra displays a superb allover arabesque that fills the expansive palace-sized composition. Oversized rosettes, flaming palmettes, ornate vases and re-curving Hamsa motifs form an elaborate interlaced trellis surrounded by a multitude of sweeping millefleur sprays laden with softly colored rosettes and bell-shaped flowers that flatter the ivory ground. The balance of large- and small-scale motifs in the field is successfully re-imagined in the elegant Safavid-influenced main borders, which feature articulate calyces arranged in an interlocking pattern. These thick botanical calyces are accompanied by palmette centerpieces and filled with delicate florets linked by dainty vines. Infinitesimal outlines highlight the decorative features of the grandest palmette and tiniest floral embellishment, adding to the visual richness of this palace-sized carpet from Agra.
