Rugs and Carpets By Emile Jacques Ruhlmann – Emile Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933), born in Paris, France, was an inspiring forerunner to the Art Deco style. He began making furniture in 1910, developing a luxurious and elegant style based on the tastefully embellished and classic proportions of Neoclassical designs. In 1919 he opened a design firm with Pierre Laurent, Ruhlmann et Laurent, which featured wall paper, furniture, light fixtures and area rugs.
His Pavilion d’un Collectionneur at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925 featured an entire room that showcased his impeccably crafted works. His use of exotic woods, ivory and metal accents, high-quality craftsmanship and subtle contours of form gives a timeless distinction to his pieces.
