Tawny colors are stacked on top of each other in a cascading series of short, horizontal lines. The effect allows the antique rug to appear like a bundle of straw, as if crafted with raw materials instead of portrayed with the use of thread and color. Red and white vertical lines move down four focal points, resulting in the appearance of ribbons that seem to hold the bundles of straw together to create comfortable rustic mattresses. This antique American rug rag is as decorative and beautiful today as it was when it was first woven.
