Large Light Pink Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920’s – The Kerman weaving centers have a tradition that dates back to the 16th century when they made the famous court carpets of the Persian empire. This classic traditional rug was created in the 1920’s using traditional motifs that go back centuries. This breathtaking piece in pinks and grays features a level of detail and distinctive style that made antique Persian Kerman carpets famous. The design of the carpet is traditional, but the colors are perfect for contemporary design palettes.

The antique rugs of Kerman were the inspiration for many of the motifs and designs that we typically associate with Persian rugs. They were among some of the first carpets to be imported by the wealthy industrialists during the American and European Industrial Revolution. In the early 19th century, the city of Kerman was destroyed in a period of civil strife. Many of the weavers escaped to the nearby town of Laver, which also had its own tradition of fine rug weaving.

The weavers learned from each other. The result was a style that would become known as Laver-Kerman rugs. This tradition produced some of the most beautiful masterpieces in the world. The area rugs are known for their high-quality, soft wool, high knot counts, and a stunning level of detail. They are typically larger and were often created as commissioned pieces.

This rug is an important historical piece, and it is an exquisite rug for your home. Persian rugs were an important element in historical styles that include Art Nouveau, Boudoir, Arts and Crafts, and Victorian styles. This rug has a formal quality and sophisticated feel that will fit into these styles perfectly. Persian rugs are now finding their way into a wide range of modern styles, and this one is a beautiful addition to modern palettes that feature colors like Millennial pink and deep burgundy. It is the perfect way to add contrast to a modern room or for adding color to a neutral color palette.
