Antique Caucasian Perpedil Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: 1900 – Lesghi stars with stepped outlines and arrow-like appendages flank a central medallion featuring Perpedil’s famous ram’s horns along with geometric symbols and elibelinde motifs set inside decorative cartouches. Multiple sets of regional borders surround the clear white field, which features a diverse assortment of protection symbols, including S-hooks, segmented rosettes and double ram’s horn motifs, rendered in a variety of softly oxidized colors. The intricately decorated field on this antique rug is surrounded by primary borders featuring polychromatic wolf’s mouth medallions, running water inner borders with zigzagging outlines, secondary borders featuring interlocking floral chains, and tertiary guard-bands decorated with shaded ribbons that are repeated to divide the assorted border motifs. This classic Caucasian Perpedil rug features prominent ram’s horn motifs and ancient symbols rendered in a diverse selection of softly oxidized colors ranging from buttery yellows to obscure hues of midnight blue.
