This grand antique Oriental East Turkestan Khotan carpet from displays the classic Turkoman design typical the regions farther west.

Rare And Decorative Antique Oriental Room Size Khotan Carpet, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: 1900 – This antique Khotan carpet was woven around 1900 and features a classic Turkoman or Bokara rug design that is common in the western regions of East Turkestan.

The most eye catching aspect of this design is the amount of symmetry. The symmetrical grid like design is created by the repeating pattern and elements. Within the central interior design of this Oriental rug there are floral rosette inspired patterns. Parts of the patterns and designs alternate. Some feature a lighter colored center and some of which feature a darker colored center element.

The border of this beautiful room size rug features two different and distinct styles. One style featured on the short ends and one style on the long ends. The elements in the border on the short end are more similar to geometric shapes. These shapes also feature alternating colors in the center, going back and forth between a caramel color and a rich dark brown. Along the longer ends of this antique Oriental room size Khotan carpet, the border is divided into square and rectangular regions, each of which contains a smaller design element within it.

Most of the design elements in this rug are created using a lighter color than the caramel colored ground. Therefore, when the darker brown is used it means these particular elements stand out a lot from the rest of the antique Oriental room size Khotan carpet. This creates eye catching design elements that are further enhanced by the large and impressive scale of this antique rug, creating a very elegant carpet.
