Antique Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: First Quarter of the 20th Century around – 1920 — A single, gentle color theme that combines the soft flow of beige with varying shades of cream and taupe creates an almost scroll-like effect in this antique Khotan rug, from East Turkestan, not unlike a fine sheet of papyrus in this antique rug. Several borders of varying thicknesses and lengths all stand against each other in alternating color patterns, allowing the eye to isolate and appreciate the flow present in each frame. Snaking vines and dancing sprigs of flowers create a definite sense of movement in the antique Khotan rug, with the eye ultimately led inward to the carpet’s center. Here, the viewer can behold a muted garden of earthy blossoms and unfurled petals.
