Antique Kerman Lavar Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Woven in the Lavar or Raver region near Kerman, this outstanding carpet features a grand medallion flanked by ornate cloud-bands woven in a combination of beautifully oxidized colors. Sweeping main borders adorned with serrated palmettes and scrolling leaves frame the carpet field. Hairline details and small-scale floral motifs decorate the field and central medallion while arching vine-scrolls create a gentle meandering pattern that is offset by the inky blue field. Majestic cloud-bands with archetypal lines flank the notched octofoil and central medallion continuing across the field and through the edges of the borders. Cloud-bands hidden in the spandrels mark the corners of the field and unify the elegant theme.
