This pictorial carpet from the city of Tabriz reflects Hebrew traditions and legends imported to Iran under the reign of Shah Abbas.

Antique Jewish Themed Pictorial Persian Tabriz Rug, Origin: Persian, Circa: 1900 – In the 16th and 17th centuries, Jewish carpet weavers and artisan dyers were brought to work in Persia’s central carpet weaving centers where they introduced stories of Moses and biblical traditions seen in this carpet. Featuring bright, clear colors and a stone tablet with Hebrew calligraphy applied in advanced perspective, this rare Persian Tabriz depicts Moses transcribing the Ten Commandments and is evidence of Hebrew traditions and Judaic art that flourished in Persia.
