Antique East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: 1900– Boldly stitched designs embellish this monochrome, tawny-hued antique East Turkestan rug. A wide oval border creates a central ornament with narrow and angular dark brown stitches surrounding a white chrysanthemum. Small figures of tulips, daisies and potted bushes surround this medallion, their brown-stitched forms accented with touches of white. Around these shapes rest corners created from geometric, snaking lines. A jagged trim of acute white angles shaded with dark brown trims the main area. Bold lines demarcate the final border, which is accented with eight-petaled flowers. Their darker shades bear a white aura, causing the blossoms to stand out against the beige background of this rug.
