Antique Bidjar Persian Runner Rug 40088

Size: 3 ft 8 in x 14 ft 3 in (1.12 m x 4.34 m)
Origin: Persian Rugs

This stunningly abstract antique Oriental Bidjar runner from Persia has designs reminiscent of the great Kuba and Shrivan rugs of the Caucasus.

Bidjar Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – Only the distinctive, unmistakable weave identifies this extraordinary long rug as an antique Bidjar. The stunningly abstract palmettes of the field and the dragon border are features usually encountered on the most sought-after Shirvan or Kuba rugs from the Caucasus, although they are rendered here with an exciting boldness and scale unprecedented in the Caucasian examples. The open camel ground, reminiscent of Serab and Bakshaish rugs, also betrays the Northwest Persian background of this unique and magnificent piece.
