Rich tones of red color form the background of the central figure of a tree framed by palms and flowering trees. This carpet is remarkable for its symmetry of form, with mirror images of plants, animals and birds balancing the two sides. Pairs of birds rendered in several shades of blue rest on ascending branches, taking the eye to the top of the tree. The center of this breathtaking antique rug displays a pair of peacocks with full tail feathers in shades of rose and light blue. Spandrels in the bottom corners display running deer, lions and flowers. The main border echoes the theme of the field with repeating motifs of deer, stylized trees and birds. The colors of the intricately woven floral motifs of the inner and outer borders harmonize with those of the main panel.
