Modern Persian Sultanabad Rug, Country of Origin: Persia (Modern day Iran) – Rendered in a stately triad of rusty red, ecru and soft Persian blue, this modern Sultanabad style Persian rug depicts a formal large-scale arabesque with minimal repeats. Grand Shah Abbasi palmettes that feature deeply serrated edges and poly chromatic accents decorate the elegant Persian blue field. These lush palmettes are arranged at opposing angles that create a formal promenade, which supports the column of intersecting vine scrolls that mark the center of the perfectly symmetric composition. The elegant vine scrolls feature re-curved tendrils and superfluous details that are beautifully offset by the Persian blue background. The fluid curvilinear style and floral motifs in this recently woven, Persian Sultanabad rug are repeated in the elegant ecru borders, which feature grand rosettes encircled by pendulous saz leaves.
