In the second half of the 19th century the Tekke tribe was one of the leading Turkoman tribes with refined weaving skills. Weaving a large variety of items, the rugs differ in sizes and shapes. Tekke rugs use an asymmetric knot that opens to the left. Typically the design includes the Gurbaghe Gul in the field. The main border is usually made with a red background that includes octagons and eight-pointed stars. The tonal range centers around warm hues--reds, purples and browns.
