A striking design of staggered medallions with serrated edges repeats across a soft cocoa ground on this boldly tribal antique Shahsavan form Northwest Persia. The design a well as the rich palette of greens, blues, and terracotta are adapted from local Persian flatweave or kilim rugs. But the "wineglass" or vinescroll border is classic for the pile rugs of Northwest Persian or Caucasian region.
