Antique Kurdish Long Rug, Persia, late nineteenth century. Based on classic early Turkish forerunners, a bold allover design of arrowhead medallions in soft green and terracotta repeats across the rich blue of this impressive antique Kurdish carpet. Half medallions of similar form fill the intervening spaces of the field. Minor borders of serial lozenges and stylized vinescrolls enclose the field, echoing its coloration. Kurdish carpets are widely appreciated for their rich lovely color, but rarely do they exhibit the graphic power of this splendid example.
