But the real pattern that underlies and stuctures this allover design is the geometric forms - four-armed quatrefoils defined by soft red arabesque tracery that enclose or frame the blue elements. The blue arabesques and red outlines come together in the main border, which continues the rhythm and sweet, delicate coloration of the field, endowing the carpet with a dominant visual unity.
