Vintage Swedish Embossed Rug, Origin: Sweden, Mid-20th Century- Here is a beautiful vintage rug – a striking mid-century Scandinavian rug, woven by the perennially popular rug weavers of Sweden. This delightful piece is primary characterized by its traditional design, which is deeply evocative of customary Scandinavian art. This handsome piece boasts a beautiful, deeply deconstructed central medallion, consisting of a simplified, eight petaled bright pink flower, surrounded by a simple, green octagonal outline. Additional floral elements appear above and below the medallion, as well as in each of the four corners of this traditionally arranged composition. The otherwise sparsely-adorned field is surrounded by a thick band of red, which serves as the border. Punctuated by small green circles at regular interviews, this red border takes on the appearance perhaps of a flowering vine, albeit with the traditional colors inverted. The overall impression left by this intriguing composition is one of subtly updated tradition – of a classical, tried and true design of cultural importance being slightly modified and updated for modern sensibilities.
